Reading, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2017) - Alvernia University (1-2) held off a late surge by Misericordia University (0-3) to capture its first win of the season in Wednesday evening non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves scored the opener late in 18th minute when
Taylor Dorrin received a pass from
Kelsey Stewart at the top edge of the shooting circle. Dorrin gathered her first goal on the season to put Alvernia on the board.
Three minutes later,
Andrea Wysocki gathered a pass from
Malorie McCoy and found the back of the net on a shot that went nearly undefended, with the exception of a save attempt by Cougar goalie, Katelyn Campbell.
The Golden Wolves spent the rest of the game defending their two shot lead.
With 16 minutes remaining in the game, Misericordia was able to narrow the Golden Wolves lead to one following a goal by Kailey Vogl. Colby Eldridge gathered the assist.
The Cougars were unable to connect on a shot on goal in the 65th minute.
Alvernia sophomore
Emma Beamesderfer collected her first career win and had a career high eight saves in net for the Golden Wolves.
