BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Jan. 10, 2018) - Senior Mike Miller scored a game-high 21 points to lead four players in double figures as Alvernia University (7-8, 2-4) won its fourth straight game 78-66 over Widener University (8-6, 2-4) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
Freshman center Kyle Gordon had his second straight big double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and Alex Shippen and Calil Moultrie added 14 each.
Alvernia lead 51-50 with 11:29 to play and ran off 13 straight points to take control. Â Gordon started and ended the run with buckets and Shippen hit back-to-back 3s in the middle. Â The Alvernia lead grew to as many as 18 in the final minutes.
Widener opened the game with a pair of 3s for an early 6-0 lead, but Alvernia answered that with nine straight and built a 21-13 lead after a Shippen 3. Â The lead was four for the Golden Wolves at the break, 41-37.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule at Stevenson on Saturday.
