Reading, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2018) - Alvernia University (1-3) dropped both matches in its home quad match Friday evening losing 3-0 in both to Loras College (4-0) and Rutgers-Newark (2-1) at Jack McCloskey Court.
Loras took a convincing 25-18 win in the first set of the opening match then held of charges from Alvernia in the second and third sets winning both of those 25-23. Â Rutgers-Newark took the straight-set win 15-16-19.
Sophomore Spencer Matthews led Alvernia with six kills in the opener and Ralph Lunati III had 10 in the second match. Â Justin Gibbs had six aces in the Loras match and finished the night with 37 assists. Â Freshman Jon Demeter had a team-high seven digs in the first match. Â He and Josh Stewart led the team with six digs in the second.
Alvernia returns to the floor for day two of the quad match facing Lehman College at 10 am on Saturday followed by a match with Vassar College at 2 pm.
