BOX SCORE Glenside, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2017) - Alvernia University (4-8, 1-4) used a big run midway through the second half to complete a 72-68 comeback win over Arcadia University (6-7, 1-3) in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Golden Wolves put together a 19-4 run to turn a 56-42 deficit into a 61-60 lead with 6:04 to play then closed out the win with a game-sealing dunk from freshman Kyle Gordon.
Calil Moultrie scored 11 of the Wolves 19 during the run and capped it with a 3 that gave Alvernia its first lead since a 12-11 edge way back in the first half.
Arcadia hit a 3 with 2:43 to play that cut Alvernia's lead back down to one point, but senior Alex Shippen knocked down a jumper then later hit a free throw to push it back to a two possession lead.
Arcadia hit a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left to pull within two points, but Alvernia broke the ensuing pressure and Moultrie outletted to Gordon all alone under the hoop for the final flush.
Moultrie led all scorers with 24 points, Shippen scored 23 to pull within 19 points of 1,000 for his career, and sophomore Nick Youngkin added a dozen. Â Gordon saw his first significant stretch of time and scored nine points in 23 minutes with eight boards.
Arcadia put three players in double figures led by Dak'quan Davis who totaled 17.
Alvernia returns home for a stretch of three games in four days starting Sunday when it hosts Penn State-Berks at 2:00 p.m.
