Reading, Pa. (Feb. 8, 2018) - Alvernia College (17-5, 10-4) erupted for 55 points in the first half on its way to a 94-71 win over Alvernia University (10-12, 5-8) Thursday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at The Bollman Center.

Albright senior Brandon Lindsay knocked down 5-of-6 3s in the first half and led the team with 18 points at the break and the Lions enjoyed a 55-33 lead at halftime.  Fred Rowles and DeLascio Dancy had two 3s each in the first half, and the Lions were 11-for-16 from the arc.

Dancy hit a 3 at 9:28 that gave Albright a 25-18 lead and sparked a quick 12-2 run that was all from the arc for the Lions with Rowles knocking down one between a pair from Lindsay.

"Their offense was the difference," said Alvernia head coach Mike Miller.  "Lindsay made some ridiculous 3s in transition or from way out.  Even their other guys made shots."

Despite the barrage, Alvernia was able to stay within shouting distance.  Freshman Keon Taylor scored on a jumper with 2:46 left in the half to pull the Golden Wolves within 10--but Albright closed with 12 straight for the 22-point halftime lead.

It was a pair of bench players--Isaiah Harris and Samuel Majekodunmi--who combined for the first nine points then following Alvernia's only turnover of the half with four seconds to go, Albright senior DeJuan Smith canned a 3 from the top of the arc just before the horn.

Alvernia turned the ball over on the first two possession of the second half and within four minutes the Lions had pushed the lead to 33 points, 68-35.

The final gasp from the Wolves was a 3-point attempt from Nick Youngkin with with just under eight minute to play that was in and out and into the hands of Smith who threw an outlet to Jared Rappoport for a layup, and the Lions kept it over 20 the rest of the way.

Lindsay scored a game-high 27 points for the second straight game to lead four Lions in double figures.  Alverni had five players reach double figures led by Shippen and Youngkin who tallied 12 each.

Albright clinches a postseason berth while on the other side of town Alvernia needs to win out and get some help to reach the MAC Commonwealth Championships.

"Tomorrow's practice is going to be very important," said Miller.  "We're going to have to iron some things out."

The Wolves continue the season Saturday hosting Arcadia.  A win keeps them in the hunt, but a loss officially eliminates them from postseason consideration.

Albright 94, Alvernia 74
