Reading, Pa. (March 15, 2018) -
Dillon Dunne ripped three RBIs, and the Alvernia University (8-3) offense combined for 15 hits on its way to a 10-5 win over Manhattanville College (2-5) in non conference baseball action at Angelica Park.
Dunne struck first for the Golden Wolves, ripping a single through the left side to score
Franco Esposito in the bottom of the second.
Alvernia added three to its lead in the bottom of the third, starting with a
Matt Briner single to left to drive home
Mike Cirilli and
Colin Rieger.
Ben Dubas capped off the inning with a double to right to bring in Briner.
Manhattanville answered with a three run inning of its to cut Alvernia's lead to 4-3.
The Golden Wolves added one to their lead, with Cirilli ripping one down the right field line to score
Ian Shaffer.
The Valiants again answered with a solo homer from Stephen Merrill to pull Manhattanville back within one.
Alvernia began to pull away in the bottom of sixth with another three run inning. Dunne started the scoring off with a single through the right side to bring in
Alex Salesky, who doubled in the second at bat of the inning. Rieger then blasted a two run shot over the left field wall to drive in Dunne and put the Golden Wolves up 8-4 heading into the top of the seventh.
The Golden Wolves added two more in the bottom of the seventh to go up 10-4 with Shaffer scoring on a wild pitch and Salesky scoring on a Dunne double to center.
The Valiants threatened in the top of the eighth, scoring one and stranding two, but were unable to get anymore back.
Brian Kane started on the mound for the Golden Wolves. Kane went four innings, striking out two and allowing three runs.
Zack Landy came in for three innings of relief and struck out three to earn the win.
The Golden Wolves return to the field on Saturday to host crosstown rival Albright College for the first two games of the three game conference series.
