BOX SCORE Fort Myers, Fl. (March 5, 2018) -
Thomas Malik pitched six scoreless innings and
Ben Dubas went 3-3, including two doubles, to lead Alvernia University (3-2) to a 5-0 win over Thiel College (0-3) Monday morning during non-conference baseball action in Fort Myers, Florida.
Malik had a strong six inning appearance on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out eight, to collect the win.
Colin Rieger opened up the bottom of the first with a single to left field. With two outs,
Matt Briner singled to left to bring Rieger home and put the Golden Wolves up 1-0.
Malik and the Golden Wolves defense went 1-2-3 over the next two innings.
The Golden Wolves added to their lead in the bottom of the third with a
Franco Esposito sac fly to center to bring home Sides, who reached on an error earlier in the inning.
Ian Shaffer then drove in Briner with a single up the left side to give Alvernia a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth.
Alvernia added two more runs in the fifth with
Dillon Dunne driving in two.
The Golden Wolves had a trio of relief pitchers, who allowed just one hit over three innings, come in to close out the game and seal the shutout win.
Alvernia improves to 3-0 on its spring break trip. The Golden Wolves continue their spring break schedule on Tuesday when they face St. John's  University for a single game at noon.
