Lucas Nets Five And Ritchie Breaks Assist Record As Alvernia Tops Rosemont, 15-10

O'Donnell Saves Five In The Win

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 16, 2018) - Freshman Austin Lucas scored a game-high five goals and junior Andrew Ritchie became the all-time assist leader as Alvernia University (1-11) defeated Rosemont College (1-12) by a 15-10 final Monday evening in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

Alvernia ripped off seven straight goals from the third into the fourth quarter to turn an 8-all tie into a 15-8 lead, and cruised to the win.  Ritchie handed out two assists on the night to move to 41 for his career passing Tom Novak's (2005-08) career total of 39.

Junior Jarrett Abernethy scored back-to-back goals midway through the third quarter to give Alvernia an 8-7 lead, but Rosemont answered quickly to tie the score.  Rosemont took an illegal body check penalty shortly after the ensuing faceoff and Abernethy buried his third of the game on the man-advantage for a 9-8 lead.

Abernethy scored the first goal of the fourth quarter for a two-goal lead and the rest of the offense pitched in for five more to take the 15-10 lead with just under five minutes left in the game.  Lucas and Tyler McDonnell scored twice each and junior Andrew Ritchie added a goal.

Jacob O'Donnell made five saves in net for the win.

Rosemont held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter and a 7-6 lead at halftime.  Abernethy ripped a shot inside the far post to tie the score eight minutes into the third quarter then willed a shot in while falling in front of the crease for the 8-7 lead.

Rosemont tacked on a pair of goals in the final two-plus minutes.

Alvernia returns to conference action on Wednesday when it hosts Widener University at 7:00.

Alvernia 15, Rosemont 10
