Reading, Pa. (April 28, 2018) - Hood College (7-8, 2-6) put together a nine goal second half to take a 13-9 victory over Alvernia University (2-14, 0-8) in the MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse regular season finale.
The Golden Wolves held a 5-4 lead heading into the half, and extended their lead to 7-4 before the Blazers scored eight goals over the next 20 minutes to overtake Alvernia for a 12-7 lead.
Alvernia's
Tyler McDonnell opened up the scoring on the day with a goal five minutes into the game to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead.
The Blazers responded with two goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead.
The Blazers and Golden Wolves went scoreless over the next eight minutes before Hood ended the scoring drought with a goal two minutes into the second quarter.
The two teams again went scoreless over the next seven minutes until Alvernia put together a run of three quick goals to take a 4-3 lead.
Hood and Alvernia traded goals in the final 50 seconds of the first half to give Alvernia a 5-4 advantage heading into the break.
Jordan Ludwig and
Andrew Ritchie each scored a goal in the first seven minutes of the second half to give Alvernia a 7-4 lead.
Hood then went on an 8-0 run over the next 20 minutes to take a 12-7 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Jarret Abernethy and
Zach Bowman each scored a goal in the final five minutes, but the Golden Wolves were unable to catch the Blazers.
Jacob O'Donnell played the majority of the game and collected 14 saves on the day.
Abernethy led the Alvernia offense with four goals and two assists.
Andrew Ritchie finished the day with two goals and one assist.
Seniors
Jordan Ludwig and
Zach Brommer had two points each on their Senior Day. Ludwig had a goal and an assist, and Brommer posted two assists on the day.
