Frederick, Md. (April 28, 2018) - Hood College (7-11, 2-7) used a ten goal second half to overpower Alvernia University and take a 17-6 MAC Commonwealth win in the women's lacrosse season finale.
The Golden Wolves and Blazers traded the lead early in the first half and Alvernia trailed by just three goals heading into the break, but the Blazers broke open the scoring in the final thirty minutes.
The Blazers took an early 2-0 lead, but the Golden Wolves tied it up with 20 minutes left in the first half with free position goals from
Brittany Defibaugh and
Gianna Taffo.
Alvernia then took the lead with a second goal from Taffo before Hood answered to tie it up at 3-3.
The Golden Wolves retook a 4-3 lead with a goal from
Maria Panettieri.
Hood responded with two goals in forty seconds to take a 5-4 lead. The Blazers scored two more to take a 7-4 lead into the half.
The Blazers scored the opening two goals of the first half to extend their lead to 9-4.
Tequilla Donnelly scored on a free position goal to cut the Golden Wolves deficit down to four, but the Blazers scored the next three goals to go up 12-5.
Alvernia'
Taylor Miltner scored Alvernia's final goal of the game with just over 12 minutes remaining.
Hood scored five more over the final 10 minutes to take the 17-6 win.
Katharine Giannaris played 45 minutes in goal for Alvernia and collected 13 saves.
Samantha Rothman came in for the final 15 minutes and had three saves.
