Reading, Pa. (Apr. 7, 2018) - Arcadia University (14-7, 6-2) scored five runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth innings in a 17-8 win over Alvernia University (17-8, 9-3) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball at Angelica Park.
Arcadia opened the game with a run in the top of the first against Alvernia starter Nicholas Marotta, but the Golden Wolves answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Matt Briner and Ben Dubas both had run scoring singles for Alvernia in the first inning and Franco Esposito drove in the third run on an RBI groundout.
Both teams scored single runs in the second inning and the Knights struck for four runs in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.
Alvernia put the first two runners on in the bottom of the fourth and scored a run on a double play to pull within one at 6-5.
Arcadia scored two runs in the sixth then sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs for a 13-6 lead. Â It tacked on four more in the eighth before Alvernia scored a pair in the bottom of the inning for the 17-8 final.
Alex Salesky went 3-for-4 for Alvernia with two runs scored and an RBI.
Alvernia continues the season Monday hosting The College of New Jersey in a makeup game.
