Reading, Pa (Sept. 7, 2018) - Penn State Berks (2-0-1) scored two goals in less than a minute to take the 2-1 victory over Alvernia University in a Friday evening men's soccer action at Alvernia.
Alvernia's offense started out on a fast note with four shots in the first ten minutes, but were held at bay by the Nittany Lions defense.
The Golden Wolves came out firing early in the second half.
Jay Ringer broke the scoreless tie when he received a pass from
Austin Young and hired to the opposite corner of the goal to put Alvernia up 1-0.
Berks tied it up early in the 73rd minute with a goal by Josh Rios. Less than a minute later, Brenden Valverde got a breakaway opportunity and fired one past Alvernia's
Luca Grippi to give the Lions the 2-1 advantage.
Alvernia had a shot to tie it up in the 87th minute when the Golden Wolves were granted a penalty kick.
Ryan Kuster took the shot for Alvernia and sent it to the upper left side of the goal. Berks keeper Trent Johnson made a diving save to hold on to the 2-1 victory.
Luca Grippi played all 90 minutes for the Golden Wolves and made four saves on the evening.
Alvernia continues its non-conference schedule with a 2:00 PM home match on Sunday afternoon against Swarthmore College.
