Green's Career-High Leads Alvernia Past Lebanon Valley, 83-78

Freshman Scores 26 In The Second Half

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 12, 2019) - Alvernia University freshman Malik Green scored 26 of his career-high 29 points in the second half and sophomore Keon Taylor handed out a career-high 11 assists to lead the Golden Wolves (6-9, 2-5) to an 83-78 win over Lebanon Valley College (5-11, 2-5) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

The five Alvernia starters were a combined 4-for-24 in the first half and the Golden Wolves trailed 34-26.

Over the first four minutes of the second half, the teams matched bucket for bucket.  Both teams were 5-for-6 from the floor, but Alvernia hit two more 3s than LVC to cut the gap to six.  Alvernia continued to stay hot running off a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 55-48 lead with 10:51 left in the game.

Lebanon Valley was ice cold on the run going 1-for-11.  Malik Green was the leading scorer for the Wolves knocking down a pair of 3s for six points.

The lead was up to nine points then stretched to 10, 64-54, with just under eight minutes to play.

Alvernia was up 14 points, 74-60, on another Green three with four minutes to go and the Wolves kept the Dutchmen at bay the rest of the way.

Green was 7-for-14 in the second half including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.  He has scored 20 or more points in four of his last six games.

Taylor scored 18 points to post a double-double.

Junior Nick Youngkin, who was scoreless in the first half on six shots, went 3-for-3 in the second half and reached 10 points.

The Wolves shot 23 percent in the first half and doubled that effort shooting 57 percent from the floor after halftime.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule at crosstown rival Albright College on Wednesday.
