Providence, RI (Jan. 26, 2019) - Johnson & Wales (2-1) took a 3-0 win over Alvernia University (0-3) in the second day of the the Johnson & Wales Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.
The Golden Wolves trailed by just three early in the first set, but the Wildcats ran off a string of three straight points to pull ahead to a 12-6 lead. Johnson & Wales then cruised to a 25-16 first set win.
The Golden Wolves again kept it close early, trailing just 7-6, in the second set, but the Wildcats again pulled away and took a decisive 25-18 second set win to take the 2-0 advantage into the third set.
The Wildcats jumped ahead in the third set and never looked back as they cruised to a 25-18 win to take the match 3-0.
Spencer Matthews led Alvernia with a team-high 12 kills on 32 attacks.
Mike Monczewski added 27 assists for the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia continues its 2019 season with its home-opener on Tuesday against Elizabethtown College at 7:00 PM.
