Stevenson Buzzer Beater Stuns Alvernia, 67-64

Green Leads Alvernia With 20

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 3, 2019) - Montaque Wright banked in a 50-footer at the buzzer to give Stevenson University (10-3, 4-1) a 67-64 win over Alvernia University (4-9, 0-5) Thursday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

Alvernia sophomore Keon Taylor hit the front iron on a 3-point attempt as the clock went under five seconds.  Wright collected the rebound on the move took a dribble a launched a shot from beyond mid court.

Wright finished with 14 points of the Mustangs and Mark Terrell scored 16.  Malik Green finished with a game-high 20 points for Alvernia--his third 20-point output in the last four games.  Nick Youngkin scored 11 points and Taylor finished with 10.

Stevenson had an early 12-4 lead, but after Alvernia stormed back with 10 of the next 12 points the gap stayed inside five points for the rest of the game and was a one-possession game for most of the second half.

Alvernia took a 64-61 lead on a layup from Younkin with 1:23 left in the game, but Johnny Rhodes knocked down a corner 3 on the next Stevenson possession to tie the game at 64-all.  Alvernia took over with 60 seconds left, but Youngkin was off the mark on a kick-out 3 with 40 seconds left, and Wright dribbled off his own foot against pressure to give the Wolves the ball with 25 seconds left and the shot clock off.

Taylor held for the final shot and after being cut off using the screen at the top of the key pulled back to attempt a go-ahead 3.  The ball caromed off Terrell and Anthony Dadson jockeying for position in the lane and Wright picked it up at the top of the arc.

Alvernia has the day off on Saturday then travels to Lycoming College next Wednesday.
