Reading, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2019) - Alvernia University (3-14, 1-7) fell to Albright College (10-10, 2-6) in a 3-2 marathon match to close out the MAC Commonwealth regular season on Thursday evening at Alvernia.
After Albright jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, Alvernia battled back to take the lead at 19-17. The two teams traded points and forced an extended set, with Alvernia winning out 29-27.
The Lions again jumped out to an early lead in set two and rode it all the way to a 25-22 set win to tie the match at 1-1.
Alvernia retook the lead in the third set with another extended set win at 26-24.Â
Alvernia held as much as a 22-19 lead in set four, but the Lions battled back to tie it up at 25-25. The two teams traded points to extend the set; but, the Lions forced three attack errors in a row to take the 30-28 set win and force the 5th set.
Albright continued its trend of holding the early advantage in set five after jumping out to a 4-0 lead. This time the Lions hung out to it the entire way, never letting Alvernia gain any momentum as the Lions took the 15-10 win in the final set.
Olivia Frutiger led Alvernia with 63 attacks, 17 dills, and 16 digs.
Paige Stern finished the night with 48 attacks and 15 kills.
Gabrielle DeLucca led Alvernia's defensive efforts with 30 digs.
Chrissy Eguaoje finished with four blocks, including three solo blocks.
Alvernia closes out its 2019 campaign on Saturday at the Wilkes University tri-match.
