Reading, Pa. (Nov. 16, 2019) - Alvernia University (4-0) set an early tone with defense and cruised to its fourth straight win with a 61-34 win over Penn College (0-1) Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Nonno Alby's Tip-Off Tournament at Jack McCloskey Court.
Alvernia held Penn to one point in the first quarter. The Wildcats went 0-for-12 from the floor over the first 10 minutes while Alvernia opened up a 12-1 lead after the first.
The lead grew to 28-10 by halftime and Alvernia outscored Penn 20-10 in the third quarter.
Alvernia advances to the championship game on Sunday and will face Brooklyn College, a 60-54 winner over Adrian College in Saturday's second game.
Torie Zerbe was one of 12 players to score for Alvernia. She totaled a game-high 12.
Julia Ewen pulled down 12 boards for the Golden Wolves.
