Reading, Pa. (Nov. 2nd, 2019) - Alvernia University (5-12-3, 4-3-1) did its part by defeating Albright College (5-14, 0-8) 2-1 on Saturday night at Alvernia, but did not get the help it needed from Widener or Arcadia to make the MAC Commonwealth postseason.
The Lions opened the scoring with a goal into the bottom right corner from Alexander MacDonald in the 35th minute.
Alvernia trailed 1-0 for nearly 45 minute before
Ryan Kuster put Alvernia on the board with an impressive opposite corner goal to even it up at 1-1.
Just under two minutes later, Kuster netted his second of the night to put the Golden Wolves up 2-1.
The Lions had two looks in the final minutes, but both shots went just wide of goal.
Ben Solsky finished with just one save for Alvernia, which came in the third minute of action.
Heading into Saturday, Alvernia needed a win over Albright, and needed either Widener or Arcadia to defeat Lebanon Valley or Stevenson, respectively. Prior to the start of the Alvernia vs. Albright game, Stevenson defeated Arcadia 1-0 with a goal in the 83rd minute. Just about five minutes after Alvernia defeated Albright 2-1, Lebanon Valley scored a golden goal with 28 seconds remaining in double overtime to down the Pride and eliminate the Golden Wolves from the postseason.
Alvernia finishes its 2019 campaign in sixth place in the MAC Commonwealth. The Golden Wolves went 5-12-3 overall and 4-3-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. Prior to tonight's game, Alvernia honored seniors
