Reading, Pa. (Dec. 11, 2019) - Alvernia University (4-4) held off a second half surge from Immaculata University (0-5) to take the 85-80 win on Wednesday night at Alvernia.
The game was a continuation from December 1st, when the game was halted at halftime due to a power outage.
The two teams picked up where they left off with Alvernia holding a 43-35 at the resumption of play.
The Golden Wolves started the second half on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 50-35.
Alvernia held as much as a 19 point lead with ten minutes remaining, but Immaculata went on a 24-7 run over the next eight minutes to take a 74-73 lead with just under three minutes remaining.
The Golden Wolves retook the lead on a
Justin Thomas layup, and Alvernia made it a two-score game on its next possession when
Malik Green made a layup and converted the and-one opportunity.
The Mighty Macs drained a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining to get back within one at 81-80, but
Keon Taylor made two foul shots to put Alvernia up 83-80.
Thomas would grab a defensive rebound on the Mighty Macs next possession, and make two free throws to seal the 85-80 win.
Green led Alvernia's offensive efforts with 25 points. Thomas finished the game with 19 points and seven rebounds. Taylor finished with ten points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.
Alvernia returns to MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday at Messiah. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
