LVC Sinks Alvernia's Postseason Shot With Late Free Throws

Annville, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2019) - Lebanon Valley College (8-17, 5-11) sank a pair of free throws with 0.7 seconds on the clock to take a 75-74 win over Alvernia University (11-14, 6-10) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at LVC.

Alvernia trailed most of the second half and battled back from down six points with two minutes left to finally take the lead, 74-73, on Nick Youngkin's 3-point play with 3.7 seconds left.

LVC inbounded the ball to Zach Tucker on the move in the backcourt.  Tucker dribbled across midcourt and was cut off by by Youngkin and Malik Green at the sideline.  Green was whistled for a foul as Tucker was passed the ball to the corner with 0.7 seconds left. Tucker stepped to the line and made both ends of the 1-and-1 and Green's inbound pass to Youngkin near midcourt was a little too far out of his reach.

Green led all scores with 24 points and Justin Thomas added 14.  LVC had four players in double figures led by Jeremy Deihm who tallied 21.

The Dutchmen led by seven points at halftime, 39-32, after shooting a blistering 63 percent from the floor including 3-for-6 from the arc.

LVC hit the first jumper of the second half and held a nine point lead, 41-32, and had an eight point lead midway through the frame before Alvernia chipped away at the lead on a 3 from Green, a driving layup from Keon Taylor, and a pair of free throws from Thomas.

Deihm scored on a putback with 2:01 left to give the Dutchmen a 73-67 lead.

Taylor and freshman Avery Walker scored in the paint in the final minutes before the Youngkin 3-point play.
