(Mar. 23, 2019) – Alvernia University (7-16, 2-7) split with a loss against Misericordia University (16-12, 6-5) and a win over John Jay College (9-15) on Saturday afternoon at Misericordia's Tri-Match.
Alvernia fell 3-1 in its first match of the day, a MAC match against the host Cougars.
The Golden Wolves fell 28-26 in set one, and fell behind 2-0 after dropping the second 26-24.
Alvernia then handled the Cougars in set three with a 25-14 win.
After trailing 23-21 late in the fourth set, Alvernia scored four of the next six points to force an extended set. The Cougars took a 29-28 lead on a kill, and sealed it on an attack error to take the 30-28 set win and 3-1 match win.
Logan McGinley led Alvernia with ten kills on 30 attacks and 12 digs.
Alvernia rebounded in its second match of the day with a 3-0 victory over John Jay College.
The Golden Wolves won by at least seven in all three sets with 25-18, 25-16, and 25-17 wins.
In the third set of the match, Alvernia trailed 6-5 early, but went on a 7-2 run to take a 12-8 lead and never looked back to complete the straight-set win.
McGinley again led Alvernia with nine kills on 22 attacks.
Alvernia has off until Saturday when they host a MAC Tri-Match against Messiah and Eastern.
