Chester, Pa. (Apr. 26, 2019) - Alvernia University (3-13, 0-8) fell to Widener University (6-10, 5-3) 24-7 on Friday night in Alvernia's 2019 season finale.
The Golden Wolves were held to just two goals in the final three quarters, and scored just once in the first quarter.
The Pride jumped out a 3-0 lead after the first four minutes, but
Andrew Ritchie got Alvernia on the board with a goal with 10:02 left in the opening quarter.
Widener would go on a 11-2 run to close out the half and go into the break with a 14-3 lead.
Alvernia's offensive struggles continued in the second half, with the Golden Wolves scoring just four goals in the final 30 minutes while the Pride added 10 more for
the 24-7 win.
Ritchie led Alvernia's offense in the final game of his career with three goals and an assist.
Keith Lake and
Zach Bowman finished with two goals each for the Golden Wolves.
Jacob O'Donnell also wrapped up his collegiate career with 23 saves over 60 minutes of action.
Alvernia's season comes to an end with three wins and 13 losses. The Pride advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship as either a four or five seed, pending the outcomes of Saturday's games.
