Reading, Pa. (Apr. 27, 2019) - Widener University (6-10, 4-4) scored 16 first half goals to jump out to a 16-5 lead en route to 22-8 MAC Commonwealth win over Alvernia University (4-12, 1-7) in the 2019 season finale on Saturday afternoon at Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves opened the scoring with a goal by
Brittany Defibaugh and held a 2-1 lead after three minutes of action following a goal by
Rachel Judge, but the Pride would hold Alvernia to just three goals the rest of the half while scoring 15 of their own for a 16-5 halftime lead.
The Golden Wolves were held scoreless the opening 13 minutes of the second half before
Erika Whitmoyer ended a nearly 20 minute scoring draught for the Golden Wolves. Whitmoyer would assist on Alvernia's next goal and scored the final goal of the game for Alvernia as the Pride went on to a 22-8 win.
Whitmoyer finished the afternoon with two goals and two assists. Defibaugh finished with three goals and Judge finished with two goals and an assist.
Samantha Rothman played all 60 minutes in net for Alvernia, making 15 saves.
Alvernia's season comes to an end with four wins and 12 losses. The Pride advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship as the fifth seed.
