Alvernia Wins Wild One, 20-14 Over Susquehanna

Sides Scores Three, Drives In Four

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 3, 2019) - Alvernia University (15-8-1) scored seven runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth on its way to a 20-14 win over Susquehanna University (7-11) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Angelica Park.

Susquehanna scored in every inning from the second on, but couldn't get out of the fifth or sixth.  The River Hawks held a 9-7 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. The Wolves scored seven runs on just four hits in the bottom of the inning benefitting from four Susquehanna errors.

Senior catcher Alex Salesky delivered the big blow for Alvernia with a 3-run, opposite field home run into the Alvernia bullpen.

Susquehanna scored a single run in the top of the sixth on a triple and a sacrifice fly, but Alvernia went up 20-10 in the bottom of the inning.  The Wolves sent 12 batters to the plate scoring six times on five hits.
Aaron Kulp picked up the win in relief going two and a third innings allowing three runs on five hits.  

Nathan Sides went 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and four RBIs.  Salesky and Colin Rieger were both 3-for-5 with a run scored. Salesky drove in three--on the fifth-inning home run--and Rieger drove in a pair.

Alvernia returns to the conference schedule on Friday when it hosts Messiah College for the first of a three-game series.
