Annville, Pa. (Jan. 11, 2020) - Lebanon Valley College (6-8, 1-4) outscored Alvernia University (7-7, 3-3) 10-6 in overtime to take a 76-72 win over Alvernia on Saturday afternoon at Lebanon Valley.
After trailing 37-27 at the half, the Golden Wolves started their comeback attempt by getting within six following a
Justin Thomas layup and a jumper and layup by
Avery Walker to make it 39-33 with 17:33 remaining in the game.
Steve Pierce then got Alvernia within five following a 3-pointer with 15:30 remaining to make it 41-36.
The Golden Wolves got within one, 52-51, on a Thomas three with 7:56 remaining in the game.
The Dutchmen scored on their next four possessions to go back up eight, 61-53, with just over five minutes remaining.
The Golden Wolves battled back and went on a 9-3 run over the next four minutes, which was capped off by Pierce tying it up at 64-64 on 3-pointer with 1:14 remaining.
As Pierce was tying the game up on his 3-pointer, the officials called a foul on the Dutchmen simultaneously in the paint, which resulted in
Keon Taylor going to the line with a one-and-one opportunity.
Taylor knocked down both of his opportunities to put Alvernia ahead 66-64 with 1:03 remaining in regulation.
The Dutchmen knocked down two free throws of their own to tie it up at 66-66 and force overtime.
After two made free throws and a jumper, Lebanon Valley went back up four in the 90 seconds of overtime.
Following a made three and layup by Thomas, Alvernia tied the game back up at 72-72 with 44 seconds remaining in overtime.
The Golden Wolves would not make another shot as the Dutchmen would go on to score four more to take the 76-72 win over Alvernia.
Thomas posted a game best 33 points for Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves were out-rebounded 51-30, and made just five of 13 free throw attempts.
The Golden Wolves return to the court on Wednesday when they host Arcadia at 6:00 PM.
