Babson Park, Fla. (Jan. 11, 2020) - Alvernia University (1-1) opened its 2020 season with a 1-1 start at the Webber International Tri-Match on Saturday at Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida.
Alvernia opened up the day with a 3-2 win over Ramapo College, but fell to the host Warriors 3-1 later in the afternoon.Â
In the first match of the day, Alvernia handled Ramapo College in the first set with a 25-15 win. Alvernia then took a two set lead with a 25-19 win in the second set.Â
Ramapo came back and took the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-15 to force a fifth set.
The fifth and final set went extended, but Alvernia was able to close it out 18-16 to take the 3-2 match win.
In the win over the Roadrunners,
Logan McGinley led Alvernia with 16 kills, 12 digs, and three aces.
Brian Rea and
Anthony Dadson finished with four blocks each, and
Mike Monczewski finished with 37 assists.
After trailing 19-14 in the opening set of Alvernia's match against Webber International, the Golden Wolves went on an 11-4 run to take the opening set 25-23.
The Warriors jumped out a 7-0 lead to start the second set, and went on for a 25-22 win over the Golden Wolves. Webber then closed out the match with 25-19 and 25-16 set wins over Alvernia to take the 3-1 match win.
McGinley again led Alvernia with nine kills. Dadson, Monczewski and
Josh Stewart each finished with two blocks, and Monczewski finished with 33 assists.
Alvernia continues its 2020 season on Saturday at the Marymount tri-match in Virginia. Â
