Annville, Pa. (Jan. 11, 2020) - Lebanon Valley College (7-7, 2-3) used a strong third quarter to lift the Dutchmen to a 57-47 win over Alvernia University (6-8, 1-5) on Saturday afternoon at Lebanon Valley.
The two teams played evenly in the opening two quarters, with the Dutchmen holding just a one point lead going into the half.
Alvernia's offense struggled in the opening minutes of the third quarter, with the Golden Wolves getting just three points off of a
Gabriella De Vito jumper and a
Julia Ewen free throw in the opening five minutes.
The Dutchmen took advantage of Alvernia's shooting struggles to extend its lead to 11 with 2:50 remaining in the quarter.
De Vito knocked down a three pointer to get Alvernia back within single digits, 41-32, going into the fourth quarter.
The Dutchmen scored three quick layups to go up by 15 points, 47-32 with 8:50 remaining in the game.
Abbie Zerbe put a stop to the Dutchmen's fast start to the fourth quarter with back-to-back layups of her own.
Torie Zerbe followed that with a layup of her own to bring Alvernia back within nine, 47-38, with 6:49 remaining.
Alvernia would get within 7 off of a
Torie Zerbe layup with 1:45 remaining, but the Dutchmen six free throws over the final 90 seconds to hold the Golden Wolves at bay and take 57-47 win.
De Vito led all scorers with 19 points on the game.
Julia Ewen finished with 10 rebounds and
Cathryn Kramer had four blocks.
Alvernia returns home on Wednesday with an 8:00 PM game against Arcadia University.
