Geneva, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2020) - William Smith (8-7, 4-2) scored three goals in the first seven minutes and added a shorthanded tally later in the first period on its way to a 9-1 win over Alvernia University (4-10, 0-6) Saturday afternoon in UCHC women's ice hockey action at William Smith.

Alvernia goalie Julia Beaven stopped four shots in the opening three minutes before the Herons scored on back-to-back shots. They added a third goal at 6:59 of the first.

Alvernia earned a power play at 11:30 of the first period, but it was the Herons who added to their lead with a shorthanded goal as the power play neared its end.

William Smith added three more goals in the second period and two in the third before Alvernia freshman Lauren Czymek scored the first goal of her collegiate career assisted by Abby Reisinger on the power play at 13:43 of the third.

Beaven finished the game with 39 saves.

Alvernia continues the two-game weekend road trip at Elmira Sunday afternoon.
