Taylor Torches Albright For Career-High 36, Wolves Win 93-85

Pierce Adds Career-High 21

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 22, 2020) - Junior guard Keon Taylor scored a career-high 36 points to lead Alvernia University (8-8, 4-4) to an important 93-85 win over Albright College (10-7, 5-3) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at The Bollman Center.

Taylor scored all 10 for Alvernia as it pushed a 35-33 lead to 45-38 at the halftime break.

"He came through," said Alvernia head coach Mike Miller of Taylor. "He made shots, he made foul shots and that's what you need with me as a point guard.  I go by how my point guard goes, so if he keeps playing like that we're going to be a tough out."

Steve Pierce knifed through the Albright defense on the first possession of the second half to keep the momentum going and the Golden Wolves scored a layup a minute to open up an 80-57 lead with 8:30 left in the game.

Taylor led the way with 12 points in the run and Pierce added 10.  Alvernia ran the offense to perfection shooting a blistering 16-for-18 over 11 and a half minutes--mostly from right in front of the hoop.

Albright made a run to cut the gap to 11 points, 80-69, but it spanned more than six minutes leaving 2:26 in the game.  Alvernia worked more than a minute off the clock on the next possession with Albright committing three fouls to get closer to the bonus.  Following the third foul, Alvernia got the ball out of bounds underneath and Taylor found Justin Thomas for a jumper that pushed the lead back to 13.

Pierce made his fifth straight start for the Wolves and reached double figures for the third straight time scoring a career-high 21.  Thomas scored 13 points on an efficient 5-for-7 night from the floor.

Sam Majekodunmi led the Lions with 28.

"It's big," said Miller of the win.  "Every game is big. We can't get too high or too low, because that's only the end of the first half, but a loss there would have been brutal.  A win puts us right in the thick of things."

Alvernia runs its record vs Albright to 21-17 overall, and returns home to face Messiah College on Saturday.
