Union, NJ (Feb. 17, 2020) - #11 Kean University (2-0) used a seven run second inning to power past Alvernia University (0-2) en route to a 9-2 win on Monday afternoon at Kean University.
The Cougars scored seven runs on five hits and two errors to jump out to a 7-0 lead in the second, and went up 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a bases loaded walk.
The Golden Wolves plated two runs on a
Joe Ginder single up the middle to score
Nick Nutile and
Kyler Newton, but Alvernia would never get any closer.
The Cougars tacked on their ninth and final run in the bottom of the seventh on a passed ball for the 9-2 win.
Alvernia saw action on the mound from seven pitchers, with
Jake Reese picking up the loss.
Alvernia was held to just three hits on the afternoon, two of them coming from Ginder.
The Golden Wolves return to action on Saturday with a double header at Randolph Macon in Ashland, Virginia.
