Albright Holds On For 81-75 Win At Alvernia

Taylor Scores Game-High 33

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 18, 2020) - Junior Sam Majekodunmi scored the final six points for Albright College (14-10, 9-6) as the Lions held off Alvernia University (12-12, 8-8) by an 81-75 final Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

Albright built a 17-point lead on a Corey Simmons layup with 5:39 left in the first half.  Alvernia cut the gap down to 41-30 at halftime and had it down to three points, 77-74 with 1:07 left to play following a free throw from Keon Taylor.

Majekodunmi missed a 3 at the end of the shot clock on the next Albright possession and Justin Thomas had a 3 in the air that would have tied the score, but it was off the iron.  Majekodunmi grabbed the rebound, was fouled, and hit two free throws for a five point lead.

Taylor led all players with 33 points.  He now has two 30-point games in his career.  The first one--a 36-point outburst--in Alvernia's 93-85 win at Albright earlier this season.

Thomas finished with 13 points, Avery Walker scored 11, and Darnell Ransom provided a spark off the bench in the first half and finished with 10.  Albright had four players reach double figures led by Simmons with 17 points.

Albright qualified for the MAC Commonwealth postseason and could finish anywhere from #2 to #4 seed.  Alvernia is done with its conference schedule at 8-8 and needs a Hood loss to Widener at home on Saturday.  With a Hood loss, Alvernia would be in as the #5 seed and would travel to either Arcadia, Lycoming, or Albright.
