Albright Downs Alvernia 72-57 In Season Finale

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 18, 2020) - Albright College (21-3, 12-3) defeated Alvernia University (9-16, 3-13) 72-57 in Alvernia's 2020 season finale on Tuesday night at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

After trailing 4-0 early, Alvernia led Albright 15-13 at the end of the first.

The Lions tied it up at 15-15 90 seconds into the second quarter on a jumper from Gabby Boggs.

The Golden Wolves would be held scoreless in the opening five minutes of the second quarter as Albright built its lead up to 21-15.

Alvernia's first points of the quarter came off of a Torie Zerbe layup to bring Alvernia within four at 21-7, but the Golden Wolves would be held to just one more field goal the rest of the half as the Lions took a 28-19 lead into the break.

Torie Zerbe scored the opening four points of the third quarter to get Alvernia within five at 28-23, but Alvernia struggled to slow down the Lions offense.

Albright built its lead up to 15 points on a 3-pointer from Amina Rauf with 1:18 remaining in the third quarter, and built up a 23 point lead with four minutes remaining in the game, 66-43, on a Dejah Terrell layup.

Alvernia closed out the game on a 14-6 run, but never got closer than 15 as the Lions took the 72-57 win.

Gabriella De Vito led Alvernia with 18 points, and Cathryn Kramer finished with 14. Torie Zerbe and Julia Ewen each finished with eight rebounds.

At 9-16 on the season under first year head coach Rayne Reber, Alvernia finishes with its best overall record since the 2012-13 season when Alvernia also went 9-16. Alvernia graduates just three seniors in Torie and Abbie Zerbe and Kiersten Ingram, and will look to return 15 of their rostered players for the 2020-21 season.
