Three-Goal Third Carries Neumann Past Alvernia, 4-1

Radcliffe Nets 10th For Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. (Feb. 7, 2020) - Neumann University (10-11, 7-5) scored a pair of goals separated by 25 seconds in the third period and added an empty-netter in a 4-1 win over Alvernia University (4-15, 0-12) Friday evening in UCHC women's hockey action at The Body Zone.

Neumann scored a power play goal with two minutes left in the first period to take a 1-0 lead and Alvernia answered the goal when Abby Radcliffe finished a breakaway with three seconds left in the second period.

The Wolves' defense appeared content to freeze the puck against the boards in the defensive end for the final 30 seconds of the second, but the Neumann forecheck freed the puck behind the goal.  Abby Reisinger controlled the puck and sent it out along the boards to Radcliffe who took it the rest of the way down ice and finished on the forehand for her 10th of the season.

Neumann took a penalty 40 seconds in the the third period in a tie game, but was able to kill that off and scored shortly after it ended.  The Knights added an insurance goal just 25 seconds later for the 3-1 lead.

Alvernia had three shots on another power play midway through the third, but couldn't find the back of the net and Neumann added an empty net goal with just under a minute left in the game.

Julia Beaven made 39 saves in net for the Wolves.

Alvernia returns to action on Saturday afternoon hosting Manhattanville at 2:00 as part of a doubleheader with the Reading Royals at Santander Arena.
