Arcadia Takes 3-2 Win Over Alvernia

Stewart Pounds Down 15 Kills

Glenside, Pa. (Mar. 11, 2020) - Arcadia University (11-10, 3-2) scored four of the last five points of the night to take the fifth set 15-12 and the match 3-2 over Alvernia University (11-8, 2-3) Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's volleyball action at Alumni Gymnasium.

Alvernia had a 24-20 lead in the opening set, but Arcadia scored five straight points for a 25-24 lead before the Wolves answered with three straight for a 27-25 win and a 1-0 lead.

Arcadia was able to finish strong in the second and third sets taking a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-17 win in the second set and a 25-19 win in the third.

Alvernia needed a five-point run midway through the third to take a 17-14 lead then scored the last five points of the set for a 25-19 win that forced the fifth and deciding set.

Arcadia led 6-3 in the fifth, but Alvernia stormed back into the lead with a run of six straight points for a 9-6 lead.  The hosts then scored three straight to tie the score at 9-9 and it remained close until Arcadia got back-to-back kills for the final two points of ra 15-12 win.

Josh Stewart led the way for the Wolves with 15 kills.  Logan McGinley and Victor de Avila both had 10 kills. De Avila and Brian Rea had four blocks each, and Spencer Matthews had a team-best 14 digs.

Alvernia returns home to host Eastern University on Saturday.
