Alvernia Sweeps Bluffton To Open Spring Break

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar. 1, 2020) - Alvernia University (2-4) opened its Spring Break trip with a doubleheader sweep of Bluffton (0-2) on Sunday.

Bluffton opened game one with a 3-run homer in the top of the first, but Alvernia batted around in the bottom of the fist to plate five runs on the way to a 9-5 win. Senior John Catchmark allowed three runs through five innings, struck out 10, and earned his 20th career victory.

In game two, Alvernia brok open a 5-3 game with four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh on the way to a 12-4 win.  Brian Kane went six innings and struck out eight in the win.

Nick Nutile was 3-for-4 in the opener with a run scored and three RBIs.  Billy Dougar was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored in game two.

Head Coach Yogi Lutz earned victories 897 and 898.

Alvernia continues the trip facing Otterbein on Monday.
