BOX SCORE Chester, Pa. (Oct. 16, 2021) - Widener University (11-3, 3-2) needed just one goal to defeat Alvernia University (6-8, 3-2) in a 1-0 decision on Saturday in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action at Widener.

The Golden Wolves applied early pressure in the 4th minute with two shots on goal - one from Felicia Getz and one from Madison Potthoff - that were saved by the Pride. 

After possession flipped back and forth in the second quarter, Widener was able to break through in the 27th minute with a goal by Juliana Sanchez. 

Coming out of the half, Alvernia's Maria Panettieri was able to fire a shot off on net, but the Pride again made the stop.

Alvernia would get off four more shots the remainder of regulation, but were unable to even it up as the Pride came away with the 1-0 win. 

Alvernia's Lexi Boettcher played all 60 minutes, making eight saves.

The Golden Wolves return to action on Wednesday at York.
