Center Valley, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2021)- Two unanswered goals by DeSales University (8-10, 2-5), including a goal with 14 seconds left to play, lifted the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (8-10, 5-3) on Saturday in non-conference field hockey action at DeSales.

DeSales started fast with a shot in the first 24 seconds that was saved by
Lexi Boettcher. The Bulldogs had another early scoring opportunity, but this shot was blocked by Alvernia.

Both defenses showed their dominance after this, with the next shot not coming until the 12
th minute of the opening stanza.
Felicia Getz sent a shot off her stick that was blocked by DeSales. The opening quarter ended in a tie, 0-0.

In the second quarter, Alvernia's offense pushed DeSales, tallying three shots in the first six minutes. It was not until the seventh minute of the second quarter that the tie was broken when
Gianna DeGregory netted the go-ahead goal off an assist by
Madison Potthoff.

The Alvernia defense continued to press DeSales, limiting the Bulldogs to just two total shots in the second quarter. The Golden Wolves went into the half with a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldog's offense opened the second half hot as they pushed the pace early. DeSales was able to tie things up six minutes into the third quarter off a goal from Catie McGrath.

The Golden Wolves had a late scoring opportunity from Potthoff that was blocked by the Bulldog's defense. The third ended with both teams knotted firmly, 1-1.

The fourth quarter saw the Golden Wolves' offense push the pace, with DeGregory sending a shot just wide of the net. Potthoff and
Kaitlyn Merritt also recorded early fourth-quarter shots as Alvernia tried to break the tie.

Despite Alvernia's best efforts, DeSales' offense proved to be too much for the Golden Wolves. With just 14 seconds left in the contest, the Bulldogs were able to slip the go-ahead goal past Boettcher.

This late-game goal lifted DeSales over Alvernia, 2-1.

Boettcher faced 13 shots while recording eight saves.

This game concluded Alvernia's regular season. The Golden Wolves enter the MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Championship on Monday at the #4 seed hosting #5 Lebanon Valley College in the play-in game at 7 PM.
