Wyomissing, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2021) - SUNY Morrisville (1-1) scored two goals in the final period en route to a 3-1 win over Alvernia University (0-2) in non-conference women's ice hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Body Zone.
Both defenses started strong, limiting the number of early scoring opportunities. Despite the strong defensive start for Alvernia, Morrisville was able to open the scoring at the 11:18 mark.
The Morrisville defense stayed strong, as it killed off four penalty opportunities in the first period. Alvernia goalie
Isabelle Hovel faced ten shots, recording nine saves.
The second period was another strong defensive showing by both sides. Alvernia did have some early scoring opportunities, with
Jasmine Hughes tallying two quick shots, which were both saved by the goalie.
The Golden Wolves continued to push the Mustangs, tallying 11 more shots throughout the second period. Hovel and the Golden Wolves' defense were able to blank Morrisville in the second period, despite the late push.
Alvernia ended the second period down, 1-0.
The third period started fast, with both teams fighting back and forth. Despite the Golden Wolves' best efforts, Morrisville was able to extend its lead to 2-0 at the 11:51 mark.
Just 37 seconds later, the Mustangs were able to net their third goal of the contest off a shot from Alana St. Palameta. It did not take long for the Golden Wolves to answer, as
Sydney Bradley was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity.
Despite this, Alvernia was not able to overcome the deficit. The Mustangs defeated the Golden Wolves, 3-1.
Hovel faced 28 shots, recording 25 saves during the contest.
Alvernia returns to action Friday on the road against Lebanon Valley College.
