Reading, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2021) - A golden goal by Cameron Rowe in the 99th minute of action lifted Alvernia University (9-2, 3-0) to a 1-0 win over York College (3-0) on Saturday night at Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action. 

As the game seemed to be moving towards a second overtime, Rowe ran the ball down the field and seemed to be getting pushed out the end line. After collecting a cross attempt that bounced off a York defender, Rowe somehow managed to get a shot off from a nearly impossible angle and tuck into the upper right corner of the net for the golden goal. 

Alvernia out shot the Spartans 6-0 in the first ten minutes and 11-5 in the first half, but York's Keegan Brade held strong in net to keep the game at 0-0.

Both teams had solid looks in the second half - Alvernia in the 55th minute and York in the 75th minute - but opposing keepers each made terrific saves to keep the game at 0-0.

Alvernia had two late opportunities in the final three minutes, but Brade again held strong to send the game to OT.

Neither team was able to maintain steady possession in overtime until Rowe took the ball down the field to seal the 1-0 win on his near-impossible shot.

Alvernia keeper Ben Solsky finished the night with six saves.

Alvernia has now won four straight, all of which have been shutouts. The Golden Wolves face their toughest matchup thus far on Tuesday when Alvernia heads to Grantham to take on #7 Messiah.
