Alvernia Ties Neumann, 1-1

Neumann Comes Away With Shootout Win

Aston, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2021) - Alvernia University (2-4-1, 1-1-1) tied Neumann University (1-5-1, 1-3-1) after 65 minutes of action, but Neumann would skate away with the shootout win after the fifth round of the shootout on Friday night in UCHC Women's Ice Hockey action at Neumann.

For NCAA purposes, the final result of the game is a tie. However, Neumann picks up two points in UCHC standings. Alvernia still also picks up one point with the shootout loss.

The Golden Wolves had several opportunities in the opening five minutes, but the Knights kept them off the board to keep it a 0-0 game early.

With 13:41 off the clock in the first period, Alvernia was awarded a power play after a penalty on Neumann. 40 seconds into the power play, Alvernia broke the 0-0 tie when Sydney Bradley fired in a shot and Jasmine Hughes deflected it into net to put Alvernia up 1-0. The Golden Wolves took the 1-0 lead into the second period.

Both teams played even through the majority of the second period, with Alvernia getting off 21 shots to Neumann's 20. Both teams also killed off a power play. But, as time expired in the second period, Neumann was able to even it up off a goal by Kaylee Voss. The game went into intermission tied at 1-1.

The back and forth continued in the third period. Alvernia's Lexi Hooper nearly had a chance to break the tie with just under five minutes remaining, but Neumann's goalie made a save with her helmet to keep it a 1-1 game and send it into overtime.

Both teams had excellent opportunities to open the 3v3 overtime, but both goalies kept it locked up at 1-1.

Following a tripping penalty on the Knights with just under two minutes left in the overtime, Alvernia was able to go on the 4v3 powerplay. Alvernia fired off two shots on net in the powerplay, but were unable to convert as the game went into a shootout.

Alvernia stepped up to the shootout first, with Hooper the first to go for Alvernia. Hooper's attempt was saved by Neumann. Neumann then went down and converted its first shootout attempt to go up 1-0.

Abby Reisinger was the next up for Alvernia, and Reisinger converted to tie the shootout at 1-1. Beaven made the save on Neumann's ensuing attempt as the shootout entered the third round tied at 1-1.

Sydney Bradley looked to put Alvernia ahead on her attempt, but was unable to convert. However, neither was Neumann as the shootout entered sudden death.

The shootout advanced all the way to the fifth round when Jasmine Martinez converted for the Knights.
Beaven finished the night with 31 saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves will face the Knights again tomorrow at Santander Arena in Reading, Pa.
