Reading, Pa. (Nov. 6, 2021) - Two first period goals proved to be enough as Alvernia University (1-3, 1-1) picked up a 2-0 win over Lebanon Valley College (2-2, 1-1) on Saturday night in UCHC and MAC women's ice hockey action at Body Zone.

Alvernia opened the scoring with Tegan Pentek netting her first career goal in the 5th minute of action. Pentek received the puck off the left post from Abby Reisinger to put Alvernia up 1-0. 

Seven minutes later, with Alvernia on a power play, Alvernia extended its lead on a goal from Amber Steinhilpert. Steinhilpert picked up a loose puck off the left post and was able to jam it in past the goalie to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0.

Alvernia killed off a penalty in the second frame, allowing just two shots, to keep Alvernia up 2-0 going into the final period.

While Alvernia was unable to find the back of the net the rest of the night, the Golden Wolves defense held off the Dutchmen. Lebanon Valley had a push at the end of the game with an empty net on top of a powerplay. Alvernia, behind goalie Isabelle Hovel, was able to hold off the Dutchmen and maintain the 2-0 shutout. 

Hovel finished in net with 29 saves. Steinhilpert also picked up 15 faceoff wins. Reisinger finished with two assists. 

Alvernia returns to action with a road series at Anna Marie beginning on Friday.
