Taylor Perfect From Three As Alvernia Hands Lebanon Valley First Loss Of The Season

Reading, Pa. (March 5, 2021) - Senior Keon Taylor set a new 3-point shooting percentage record as Alvernia University (3-1, 3-1) handed Lebanon Valley College (6-1, 5-1) its first loss of the season on Friday night in Men's Basketball action at Alvernia.

Taylor finished the night shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. He is just the second Alvernia men's basketball to ever shoot 100% from three on a minimum of five attempts. Alex Shippen was the first to shoot 100% after going 5-for-5 in December of 2019 against Juniata College.

Alvernia scored the opening points of the game off of two straight Malik Green jumpers to give Alvernia the early 4-2 lead.

The Golden Wolves quickly extended their lead to 14-3 after going on a 10-1 run over five minutes.

The Dutchmen wasted no time in storming back, going on a 12-0 run of their own to take a 15-14 lead off a Collin Jones layup and and-one with 7:21 left in the first half.

Alvernia and Lebanon Valley traded baskets the rest of the half, but a layup from Jakob Kelly followed by a 3-pointer from Taylor gave Alvernia the 35-29 lead going into the break.

The Golden Wolves scored the opening points of the first half as Rece Harman dropped in a layup on Alvernia's opening possession.

Four minutes later, the Dutchmen got back within one, 41-40, on a layup from Collin Jones with 15:42 remaining in the game.

Alvernia answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Malik Green to go back up by seve, 47-40 with 14:28 left to play.

With 8:08 remaining, Lebanon Valley tied the game at 57-57 on a Zach Tucker 3-pointer, but, again, Green answered with his own 3-pointer to put Alvernia ahead at 60-57.

Alvernia would hold the lead the rest of the way, extending it to as much as 13 down the stretch. The Golden Wolves converted a series of free throws in the final minutes to take the 87-81 win.

As a team, Alvernia shot 52% from beyond the arc and were 26-57 from the field.

Green led Alvernia with 27 points and was 9-for-13 overall and 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. He also brought in a team high seven rebounds.

Taylor scored 26 on the night, with all but one of his seven field goals coming from beyond the arc.

Alvernia returns to the court on Monday with a single game against Wilkes University at Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.
