Alvernia Falls To Chatham In Overtime, 3-2

Pittsburgh, Pa. (April 1, 2021) - #7 Alvernia University comeback fell just short as the Golden Wolves fell to #3 Chatham 3-2 in overtime of the UCHC Quarterfinal at Chatham.

After trailing 2-0 after the first period, Alvernia battled back to tie it up at 2-2 at the end of the second. The teams traded goals in third and ended regulation locked in a 3-3 tie. Chatham would come out on top though after converting a scrambled shot in overtime.

The Cougars struck first six minutes into the first period with Sydney Collins putting one in the back of the net.

Chatham then took a 2-0 lead eight minutes later with a goal from Grace Pavlovich.

The Cougars outshot the Golden Wolves 25-7 in the first period.

Alvernia responded in the second period, evening it up at 2-2.

Abby Reisinger put the Golden Wolves on the board with a shot off the glove hand of Chatham's goalie mid-way through the 13th minute.

Jasmine Hughes then scored the equalizer after gaining control of a loose puck and firing it on net.

Goalie Julia Beaven kept Alvernia in it, making 17 saves in net in the second period.

Alvernia took the lead when Alex Robertson won a 1v1 situation against her Chatham defender and put one on net with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.

The Cougars evened it back up on a power play goal two minutes later.

Alvernia got a shot off in the final seconds of regulation, but was unable to convert.

The Golden Wolves had a couple of looks in overtime, but the Cougars would come out on top after picking up a loose puck in front of net and putting it in goal.

Alex Robertson led Alvernia with a goal and an assist.

Beaven finished with 55 saves in net.

With the overtime win, Chatham advances to the UCHC semifinal. Alvernia finishes it's second season in program history with a 3-5 record.
