Grantham, Pa. (April 14, 2021) - Alvernia University (2-3, 2-0) defeated Messiah University (1-4, 0-2) 7-2 in MAC Commonwealth Women's Tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Messiah.

The Golden Wolves started off their day picking up a point at #1 doubles where the duo of Leah Bouchard and Laura Covely defeated Messiah 8-3. Alvernia fell at #2 doubles, but Rachel Rineer and Jackelyn Checo edged out an 8-7 (7-4) win at #3 doubles to give Alvernia a 2-1 advantage heading into singles action.

Bouchard picked up Alvernia's first win of the afternoon in singles action after taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at #1 singles. Messiah took #2 singles to cut Alvernia's lead back down to one at 3-2, but Alvernia would sweep the rest of the singles matches en route to the 7-2 match win.

Checo picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at #6 singles, and Rineer followed that with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #3 singles. Elizabeth Danovich picked up the 6-3, 6-1 win at #5 singles, and Lily Summerson finished things off with a three set win at #4 singles.

Alvernia returns to action on Saturday at Lebanon Valley College.
