Reading, Pa. (May 8, 2021) - #1 Alvernia University was eliminated from the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday following a doubleheader sweep by #4 Messiah University in the semifinal round.

Messiah took game one 2-0 and followed that with a come-from-behind 5-2 victory in game two.

The Falcons pitched a one-hitter in game one while scoring a run in the 2nd and 4th innings to take the 2-0 win.

In game two of the afternoon, Alvernia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Riley Shields doubled to the left gap to score Loomis and Sarah Reinert.

The Falcons tied it up in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer to left field by Elena Rosas. They then took the lead with a solo shot to left in the top of the fifth. Messiah then added two to its lead with another two-runner homer by Rosas to center in the sixth.

Alvernia had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but Messiah forced a pop out to end the threat.

With the loss, Alvernia must await a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. Messiah heads to the MAC Championship, where the winner of the Championship receives an automatic bid to the tournament.
