Golden Wolves Fall to Mustangs, 4-2

Owings Mills, Md. (Jan. 14, 2021) - Alvernia University (4-7-1, 2-4-1) scored two third period goals, but the Golden Wolves were unable to overcome a quick start by Stevenson University (6-7, 5-4) as the Mustangs came away with a 4-2 win on Friday in UCHC and MAC Women's Ice Hockey action at Stevenson.

The Mustangs held Alvernia shotless for the opening 12 minutes, including through a power play for the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia's offense found some life at the start of its second power play at the 12:19 mark, with Alvernia getting off seven shots over the two minute span. The Mustangs were able to stop all seven and keep the game locked at 0-0.

Alvernia was able to kill off a power play for the Mustangs three minutes later. But, just ten seconds after the power play ended, the Mustangs netted their first of the night off the stick of Cassie Campbell at the 17:25 mark.

With just five seconds left in the first period, and just four seconds after another Alvernia penalty was killed off, the Mustangs extended their lead to 2-0 off a Elizabeth Gaudreau goal.

The Mustangs stayed hot entering the second period after Trinity Barcless netted her first  of the night just under three minutes into the period.

Alvernia kept Stevenson off the board the rest of the period, but could not net one of its own.

Midway through the third period Alvernia's Sydney Bradley spoiled Stevenson's shutout attempt as she took a pass from Shae Hudec and found the back of the net.

The Mustangs needed just over a minute to respond as Barcless netted her second of the night to make it a 4-1 game with just over nine minutes to play.

Abby Reisinger found success on a late power play for the Golden Wolves with an assist from Olivia Gilida to make it 4-2 with just under a minute to play.

Alvernia did not get another shot off as the Mustangs came away with the 4-2 win.

Alvernia goalie Julia Beaven finished the night with 38 saves for Alvernia. Reisinger and Jasmine Hughes each finished with eight faceoff wins.

The Golden Wolves return back to Stevenson tomorrow to face the Mustangs at a new time of 4:15 PM. The game has been moved up from its original scheduled time of 7 PM.
