Wyomissing, Pa. (Jan. 21, 2022) - A goal from Alex Robertson with just under 13 minutes to play was all Alvernia University (6-7-1, 4-4-1) needed as the Golden Wolves defeated Wilkes University (1-12, 1-10) on Friday night in MAC and UCHC Women's Ice Hockey action at Alvernia's Body Zone Complex.

Robertson stole the puck from the Colonels on the Wilkes' defensive zone blue line and broke away from two defenders for a one-on-one opportunity against the Wilkes goalie. Robertson buried the puck into the upper right corner of the net to give Alvernia the 1-0 advantage. The Golden Wolves held off the Colonels the rest of the way to come away with the 1-0 win. 

Alvernia out-shot Wilkes 41-22 over the 60 minutes of action, and had eight power play opportunities to Wilkes' four. However, Wilkes was able to keep Alvernia off the board until the Robertson breakaway goal at the 7:30 mark of the third period. 

The Golden Wolves finished with 34 faceoff wins to Wilkes' 19. Amber Steinhilpert and Abby Reisinger led Alvernia with 10 faceoff wins each. 

Julia Beaven picked up the shutout win with 22 saves in net for Alvernia.
