Golden Wolves Run Past Lions, 96-74

Media, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2022) - Alvernia University (11-5) put up 51 points in the second half en route to a 96-74 win over Penn State Brandywine (8-13) on Wednesday night in non-conference men's basketball action at Penn State Brandywine.

After Penn State Brandywine scored the first points of the game off a layup, Alvernia scored six quick points after back-to-back threes from Malik Green and Avery Walker.

With Alvernia leading by just two, 8-6, after about three and a half minutes of action, Alvernia went on a 9-0 run over the next 90 seconds to extend its lead to 17-6. The run was capped off by two made Jakob Kelly free throws at the 16:01 mark.

Alvernia kept pushing the pace, and a 3-pointer from Malik Green with 13:23 to play in the first half extended Alvernia's lead to 12, 23-11.

Two minutes later, Alvernia took its largest lead of the game thus far with a Jacob Stoudt three to give Alvernia a 29-15 advantage with 11:14 to play in the first half.

The Lions would keep Alvernia off the board for the next four minutes as they chipped away at Alvernia's lead. Penn State Brandywine got within five, 29-24, with 7:31 to play in the half.

Two made free throws from Robert Mullan ended Alvernia's scoreless drought, but the Lions continued to chip away.

With 5:21 to play in the first half, a layup from Johnta Dunson put the Lions within three, 32-29. Alvernia did not allow Penn State Brandywine to get any closer. Just under two minute later, a 3-pointer from Kelly put Alvernia back up by double digits, 39-29. The Golden Wolves went on to take a 45-33 lead into the break.

The Lions scored the opening four points of the half and cut Alvernia's lead down to eight, 45-37, after just under a minute of second half action.

Two made free throws from Green put Alvernia on the board for the second half, and a 3-pointer from Kelly at the 16:51 mark put Alvernia up by 14, 54-40.

Over the next six minutes, the Golden Wolves outscored the Lions 18-10 as Alvernia built its lead to 22, 72-50, on a 3-pointer from Keon Taylor with 11:59 to play.

The Golden Wolves took their largest lead of the night off a fast-break 3-pointer from Kelly followed by a made free throw by Rece Harman to give Alvernia a 28 point lead, 91-63, with 5:10 to play.

Alvernia scored just five more points - off a layup by Luke Edwards and a 3-pointer from William Fisher - the rest of the way as the Golden Wolves came away with the 96-74 win.

Green led Alvernia with 26 points and six rebounds. Mickeel Allen finished with 16 points, and both Jakob Kelly and Jacob Stoudt finished with 15 points. 10 Alvernia players finished with points.
