Wyomissing, Pa. (Jan. 29, 2022)- Alvernia University's (7-9-1, 5-6-1) two goals late in the third period were not enough to take down Chatham University (10-9, 9-7) as Alvernia fell to the Cougars 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in UCHC women's ice hockey action at the Body Zone Complex.

The Cougar's offense started fast, recording eight shots in the first 5:16 of the opening stanza.
Julia Beaven held strong underneath the offensive barrage, recording six saves.

Chatham opened the scoring halfway through the first, with Cameron Carmody picking up a goal just a second after a power-play opportunity.

The second period saw
Sydney Bradley fire away two shots in the opening seconds, with neither able to find the back of the net.

The Cougars added to their lead with 8:47 left in the second period, with Ally Nolan slipping one past Beaven. Chatham ended the second period with the lead, 2-0.

Chatham pushed its lead to three at the 5:10 mark in the third period, taking advantage of another power-play opportunity.

The Golden Wolves' offense cut the deficit to two, with
Lexi Hooper capitalizing on a power-play opportunity and netting Alvernia's first goal of the day.
Olivia Gilida and
Alex Robertson each picked up an assist on the play.

Then, at the 14:50 mark,
Abby Reisinger found the back of the net, with Lauren Cyzmek and
Sydney Bradley dishing out the assists. This goal sliced the Cougar's lead in half, making it a 3-2 game with 5:10 left in regulation.

Alvernia's best opportunity to tie came with 2:52 left on the clock, as
Jasmine Hughes had a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. The shot went flying towards the top right of the net, but Katy Reed was able to get a glove on it and make the save, keeping the Cougars on top.

The Golden Wolves were unable to get another shot off the rest of the period, with Chatham's defense holding onto its slim lead.

Chatham secured the win over Alvernia, 3-2.

Beaven faced 47 shots on goal, tallying 44 saves during the contest.

The Golden Wolves return to action this Wednesday as they go on the road to face Manhattanville College.
