Chargers Down Golden Wolves, 3-1

Lancaster, Pa (Oct. 13, 2022) - Lancaster Bible College (13-8) defeated Alvernia University (9-10) 3-1, in a non-conference women's volleyball match Thursday night at Lancaster Bible. 

Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 7-3 lead before Alvernia battled back and scored four straight points to tie the game at seven midway through the first set. 

Alvernia and LBC went point for point to tie the game at 14 before the Golden Wolves tallied three straight points to take a 17-14 lead and force a Chargers timeout. Rachel Sipling and Pressley Carnes both tallied kills. 

Lancaster Bible responded with a 5-2 scoring run that tied the game at 19 late in the first set. The Chargers then took a 21-20 lead which forced Alvernia to take a timeout. 

The Golden Wolves finished the first set on a 5-1 run en route to a 25-22 win in the first set with Jamie Pierce adding an ace. 

Lancaster Bible opened up the second set with five straight points to take a 5-0 lead and then extend its lead to 10-4 after a 5-4 run. The Chargers then went on a 7-4 run that increased their lead to 17-8 and forced a Golden Wolves timeout. 

The Golden Wolves outscored the Chargers 9-8 to finish the second set but it wasn't enough as the Chargers took set two 25-17 and tied the match at one. 

The Chargers picked up where they left off in the second set and jumped out to a 10-2 lead early in the third set before they extended their lead to 20-10. 

The Golden Wolves responded with a 5-3 run with kills from Sipling and Juliana McGlone, before Lancaster Bible tallied the final two points to take its second consecutive set and take the lead 2-1. 

Alvernia and Lancaster Bible traded points back and forth early in the fourth set and with the game tied at six, the Chargers took a 15-9 lead and forced the Golden Wolves to take a timeout. 

The Golden Wolves responded by ripping off a 7-3 run with Sipling hammering home a kill to cut the Charger lead to 18-16. 

The Chargers rattled off a 6-2 run to extend the lead to 24-18 before the Golden Wolves responded with five straight points to pull within one, 24-23. McGlone tallied a kill and Kayleigh Kehler added an ace during the run. 

Lancaster Bible's Grace Farlow tallied a kill to take the fourth set 25-23 en route to a 3-1 victory for the Chargers. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Abigail McGinley with 17 digs. Sipling tallied 14 digs and added a team high 12 kills. Molly Gaffney led the Golden Wolves with 16 assists and Pierce tallied six blocks, which was a team high. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action next Wednesday when they travel to Messiah to take on the Falcons at 7:00 PM.
